The End of a Better Day
Original 14 × 18 mixed media on slim wood panel
Starting with play, just putting paint down, then scribbling over it, the layers in this piece developed into this seascape. The warmth of the setting sun behind the land mass provides a moment of reflection, both from a felt sense as well as literally, as the clouds are reflected in the water.

Tres Manas
15 × 30 acrylic on slim canvas
If you’re from Alberta, you probably recognize this mountain scene. This is my interpretation of The Three Sisters, a distinct mountain range in Canmore, Alberta. I actually did use a few stock references just to get the shapes, then I was able to let loose and make it mine. Having just recently moved to Alberta, I may be painting more mountains, oh, and the prairie skies!

Coming Out/Letting Go/My Rainbow Person
36 x 12 mixed media on deep cradled wood panel. After completing a series of large works that took months, I created this colourful series. I needed to play and chose colour as my focus, which was joyful. As the pieces came to resolution, I decided to layer in a large eye shape made with a hand-cut stencil. Initially, it was a dark shape, and despite the bold colour, that’s all you could see! I kept the eye’s form but changed the values to make it more subtle. One piece, titled My Rainbow Person, is a tribute to my paternal grandmother, a gentle and kind person who always made me feel special. My First Nations heritage comes through her, and she was a proud woman.
